Today, the resistance that microorganisms develop against antimicrobial drugs has become a major problem worldwide. Resistance limits treatment options, leading to longer hospital stays, higher health care costs and increased mortality. Incorrect use of antibiotics poses serious threats to both individual and public health and facilitates the development of resistance. Antimicrobial stewardship programs are an approach developed for the conscious and effective use of antibiotics. Their main aim is to prevent antibiotic resistance, to ensure that patients receive the most appropriate treatment, and to improve infection management.

Under the leadership of the Department of Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology of Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine, the Adult and Oncology Hospitals have successfully met global antimicrobial stewardship standards and have earned the right to receive GAMSAS (Global Antimicrobial Stewardship Accreditation Scheme) Accreditation !

Awarded by the British Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy (BSAC) and valid for three years, this accreditation is an indication of our high standards in antimicrobial stewardship. With Level Two Accreditation, this internationally recognized achievement proves our hospital's and university's commitment to rational antibiotic use and preventing the development of resistance .

We thank all our academic staff and health workers who contributed to this important achievement!
