How Does One Enter the Heart Transplantation Program?
When the doctor following the patient believes that a heart transplant is necessary, they refer the patient to the heart transplantation council. The patient's condition is evaluated at the heart transplantation council, which meets regularly. If the council finds the patient suitable and decides on a transplant, the patient is admitted to the program and registered on the organ waiting list. Of the patients placed on the waiting list, those whose condition allows them to live at home wait for a suitable heart at home and come in for check-ups, while patients in serious condition wait for a suitable heart in the hospital.
