The main focus of laboratory services is to provide an accurate and expeditious contribution to the diagnoses, treatment and monitoring of illnesses. Our team continuously updates the scientific and technological infrastructure required to make this fully possible. Providing high quality test results with accuracy in a short amount of time is the defining principle of our laboratory services.
A quality management system has been adopted by our laboratory in order to ensure that the tests conducted herein comply with national and international standards of quality. According to this system, the pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical processes of these tests are closely monitored, thereby ensuring results that are in alignment with quality standards. As part of quality management, lab safety inspections, staff training and internal and external quality standard checks are conducted on a regular basis. Our laboratory was conferred a commendation during the JCI Hospital Accreditation audits for exceeding expectations in its quality standards. Our institutionalized quality management system was also very helpful in our efforts to acquire permits from the Ministry of Health.
On average, seven million tests are carried out annually at our Central and Emergency laboratories.
The main services provided by our laboratory relate to Biochemistry, Microbiology, Hematology and Metabolic and Molecular diagnostic tests. All tests carried out in our laboratories are monitored and supervised by academics who are specialized in their respective fields. This allows the tests to be carried out using methods that are not only the most up to date, but also the safest.
Using the most recent scientific data and technological means in our laboratories, the objective is to provide the best and quickest laboratory service available. The waiting periods for the results of tests conducted at our laboratory can be viewed in the Hacettepe University Central Laboratory Test Guide.
Judiciously collecting and handling of samples is crucial to achieving accuracy in laboratory test results. Where some specialized tests are concerned, the patient will be given instructions by the relevant departments as to how they should submit the sample. Information concerning sterilized urine sample gathering, 24-hour urine gathering, diet or tests requiring the addition of a preservative, and tests carried out during the week or on an emergency basis are available in the Hacettepe University Central Laboratory Test Guide. It is vital that the Metabolic Test Request Form be completed in full. A Prenatal Diagnostic Test Informed Consent Form is requested.
One of our goals is to be able to carry out all the necessary tests with the minimal amount of blood drawn from infants and oncology patients, from whom it may be more difficult to obtain samples. One of the distinguishing characteristics of our laboratory is that we are also able to provide consultations based on our clinical biochemical experience.
In addition to routine laboratory services, participating in education-training activities and conducting scientific research is among our most significant efforts. Courses on theory and practice, in each year of the education program, ensure the participation of all the students of the Faculty of Medicine. For students of a specialized medical field, our education program consists of courses on theory and practical rotation applications. In addition to the above, our educational activities also include Graduate and Doctorate Programs, “Clinical Fellowship” training programs, “Research Fellowship” training programs, continuous in-service training programs, summer internships, the Vocational High School of Health, and educational programs for undergraduates studying biology, chemistry, etc.
Further developing our laboratory services through scientific research, with participation from our academic staff, is an integral part of our laboratory’s mission. Currently, we are engaged with a number of national and international projects being carried out in conjunction with multiple scientific disciplines.
Samples taken from patients who have applied to the Hacettepe University Hospitals and been screened by clinicians and those sent over from contracted institutions are accepted by our laboratory after being evaluated based on the red criteria. The list of red criteria may be found in the Hacettepe University Central Laboratory Test Guide.
Tests included in the Health Practice Notification (SUT) are conducted at our laboratories in accordance with social benefits provisions. Tests that do not have a SUT code are conducted in exchange for a fee.
