Services Offered

Three research assistants in addition to experts on traumatology, sports medicine and physiotherapist who are experienced on arthroscopy and articular surgery as a result of sports-related injuries continue their studies at out university. The Department of Sports Medicine contributed to the establishment of Sportsman Health and Performance Evaluation, Implementation and Research Centre (SAPEDUM), an institution which brings together and coordinates the relevant departments and people working on the development of sportsman health and performance. Thanks to this center, not only the treatment of sportsmen who were injured in their musculoskeletal system is carried out; but also many research and development activities in relation to different sports-related injuries, other health issues observed in the sportsmen as well as increasing the performance of the sportsmen are done.

  • General evaluation of sportsman health

  • Prevention of sportsman injuries, providing sportsmen with information on development of performance, nutrition, doping

  • Diagnosis and treatment of sports-related injuries

  • Sportive rehabilitation before and after surgeries

  • Pre-sports screenings, encouragement for sports, license examinations for sportsmen

  • Exercise prescription for chronic disorders

  • Special exercise protocols for shoulder, knee, hip, elbow and ankle

  • Measurement of muscle strength and articular movement gap

Our department houses devices such as "CPM, KT-2000, Cryo-Cuff and Complex MI-Sport 500" in addition to Biodex Isokinetic System.

KT-2000

KT-2000 is a device which is able to numerally measure the insufficiency of anterior cruciate ligament. It had been used for other articulars lately. Anterior cruciate ligament prevents tibia, which is situated below the knee articular, from moving towards the anterior. With the help of this device, the movement of tibia towards the anterior is measured and the condition of insufficiency of anterior cruciate ligament as well as the impact of interventions on this ligament can be measured more easily.

Continuous Passive Movement (CPM)

Articulars are fed not only directly through vascular structures, but also through the movement of articular fluids. Feeding of articulars which stay motionless for a long time seriously deteriorates. This device moves the articulars in a controlled way and therefore problems in relation with feeding of articulars are overcome. Our department also houses a device for knees.

Biodex Isokinetic System

Exercise is separated into three parts:

  • • Isotonic: A movement carried out with a constant weight; holding the weight with hand and twisting the elbow.

  • • Isometric: Exercises such as contracting muscles without moving the articulars

  • • Isokinetic: A movement carried out with a constant pace

Whereas minimal device is enough to carry out the first two exercises, isokinetic exercises necessitate special mechanisms. Since angular pace in the articulars is constant in isokinetic exercise, trying to increase the speed makes is possible for the muscle to be loaded with maximum potential and therefore the increase of strength in the muscles reaches maximum levels. Isokinetic systems can create all these three type of exercises. In addition to that, isokinetic system could measure the strength of the muscle in terms of its quality therefore it provides the opportunity to compare the strengths of muscles and to observe the proactive development of the sportsman in terms of strength.

Cryo-Cuff Device

The two important steps in early treatment for musculoskeletal system injuries are cold and compression (pressure) implementation. This device provides the opportunity for applying cold and compression together for the knee, ankle and shoulder injuries as well as during post-surgery period. Therefore it helps keeping articular swelling in people with injuries as well as during the early periods following surgery at a minimum level.
